about

"In 2009 I got heavily into collecting releases on the Michigan label Excite Bike Tapes.
From the sounds of label owner Dan Dlugosielski's projects The Mossy Throats and Body Morph,
to his own artwork and the other artists he released, it was just perfect to me and I was hooked.
After a few years of tracking down nearly everything Dan had ever released (apparently I have some
things he hasn't even got) I was left with a few edition of one holy grails for my collection to be complete.
They were a Polish Hex boxset which belongs in the collection of Thousand Year Frog, an Uneven Universe boxset
no one can ever obtain because it's buried in the back garden of Dan's former home and a 5 cassette boxset
titled Submissions to the Gerendas International Public Library.
It was around 2013 and I had been in contact with Gerendas for a few years now, we had similar tastes
in music and a fond appreciation for Excite Bike Tapes. I had bought some obscure EXBX titles from him previously but to my
surprise he generously offered to give me the one and only copy of Submissions to the Gerendas International Public Library.
This is where this album comes in. It's 2023 and I've been ripping and archiving rare & obscure tapes to YouTube.
Whilst ripping the Gerendas Public Library set I notice there are sounds at the end of most of the tapes which
Dan's tape deck didn't properly erase. I decided to archive these sounds as they may be unreleased EXBX material
that could give an insight to Dan's recording process. Most of the recordings were quiet and cut out every few seconds
so I figured what if I were to use these sounds to create a whole new album, Cosmic Domestic Sludge." - Simon Wilson, June 8th 2023.

Track One: Cosmic Domestic Sludge (15:44)
This was the first track I made using surplus material from the Gerendas Public Library. I layered the sounds from the ends of sides
A & B and played a broken Indian flute, which I bought from John Olson on eBay. I layered some synth from a Behringer DeepMind 6
which I bought during the great lockdown of 2020, and some bells, broken glass & metal objects to tie it all together.
Playing the flute to Dan's cosmic and pulsating noise felt like mantra to the dusk as I looked out my bedroom window that evening.

Track Two: Noise Party (12:20)
The second track made. I use the ends of sides G & H, which I think are a Winter Ruby or Tyvek show but your guess is as good as mine.
Again I layered these together, reversed them and blew them out with EQ. I dubbed this to a chewed tape and ripped it again, using
the pause button, touching the take up reel and generally abusing my boombox to mangle the sounds.
This track is a globulous mass of tape noise.

Track Three: Bad House (8:24)
For the third and final track I take it back to Detroit with the worst acid house track you can imagine. I used kit sounds from the
Yamaha YPT-200, some bleeps from the Pocket Operator, shit acid sounds from the DeepMind 6, Rhythmic tape hiss from the end of
side C, Mountain Manglings Vol. 4 Side B, a vocal sample from the end of side G and for the bassline a sample from side B.

Recorded early June 2023 in Birmingham, England.
Stuff used: various tapes and cassette decks, Indian flute, Behringer DeepMind 6,
Olympus VN-711PC, Yamaha YPT-200, Pocket Operator PO-24, bells, metal objects, broken glass.
Mixed in Audacity.

Working titles:
Domestic Sludge, Dan's Domestic Tape Sludge, Galactic Mulch.

Front cover, layout and liner notes by Simon Wilson.

Thank you Kindly to Dan for letting me release this and to Thomas Gerendas, where ever you are we miss you bro.
